Far too many of us feel that maintaining a healthy lifestyle during the holidays is impossible. However, you can still enjoy Thanksgiving Dinner without loading up on unhealthy starches and carbohydrates. We are not suggesting missing Thanksgiving Dinner at your parents’ house entirely; rather, revamp your plate in a way that promotes proper nutrition. We want you to be able to enjoy the holiday season without worrying about breaking your diet, which is why we have gathered some healthy tips for navigating the dinner table on Thanksgiving:

  • There are so many traditions to follow on Thanksgiving, but skipping breakfast should not be one of them! There are an overwhelming number of Americans who simply starve themselves until the feast arrives. Yet, eating a small breakfast on Thanksgiving Day will jump start your metabolism and eliminate mid-day cravings.
  • When it comes to loading your plate with turkey, make sure to go with skinless pieces. This will reduce the sodium and fat content while allowing you to eat fewer calories.
  • The side dishes tend to make it more difficult to control your cravings, as you see the bacon and cheese sitting on top of the potatoes. If possible, try to choose all the vegetable dishes and splurge only on your absolute favorite side dish. Indulgence in moderation is nothing to worry about!
  • While plating a healthy dish may seem like the only thing you can do to make for a healthier Thanksgiving, you can also encourage your family to take a group walk either before or after dinner. This is a great way to sneak in a little exercise while bonding with the ones you love most.
